Celtic Sea Salt (800g) for Cooking & Bathing

£5.99
Celtic Sea Salt’s Label Rouge logo, for those unfamiliar with the finer points of French culinary bureaucracy, is not so much a mark of approval as a badge of honour – a fleur-de-lis of gastronomic superiority. Created in 1960, it exists to reassure buyers that what they hold in their hand is not just a product, but the apex of artisanal craftsmanship.
We’ve used Celtic Sea Salt almost daily since 1997 and neither we, nor the children ,have visited the doctor since then.
Years ago, I rented a beach house in Kingscote, Kangaroo Island – a speck of paradise off Australia’s southern coast. In the kitchen was a tank of fish, languid and forlorn, hovering in stagnant water. On a whim, I tossed in a pinch of Sel de Guerande. And like a miracle, life returned to them. They danced, revived, alive again. It wasn’t magic, though. Just minerals. The same ancient ones that have sustained life since time began.

The Salt the French Have Kept Secret for Centuries.

One pinch of Gros Sel Guerande, and you’ll understand instantly why the world’s finest chefs refuse to cook without it. This is not seasoning. This is a revelation.

You’re not the person who grabs whatever’s on the supermarket shelf. You read ingredients. You seek out the real thing. You know that what you put into your cooking, and your body, matters.

Gros Sel Guerande is for you. It is, quite simply, the finest table salt on earth. Once you’ve tasted it, you will never go back.

“I put this on soft-boiled eggs and my husband genuinely thought I’d changed my recipe. I hadn’t touched anything else.”— Sarah T., home cook, Yorkshire

The story behind the salt

Born at Dawn, on the Surface of the Sea

Along the Atlantic coast of France,  in the misty salt marshes of Guérande, something extraordinary happens on warm, windless mornings. A paper-thin film of crystals forms on the very surface of the seawater, catching the light like frost. It lasts only hours.

Paludiers, the salt farmers who have tended these marshes for over a thousand years, wade in at dawn with flat wooden rakes called lousse, and skim this fleeting crust from the water by hand. Gently. Precisely. Just as their parents, grandparents and great-grandparents did before them.

This is Gros Sel Guerande , the salt to cook and bathe with. It cannot be mechanically harvested. It cannot be rushed. And because it only forms under the right conditions of sun, wind, and tide, it represents less than 1% of each season’s total salt yield. It is, by nature, rare.

Why it tastes different

This Is What Salt Actually Tastes Like

Although the Gros Sel Guerande crystals are slightly larger than those of Fleur de Sel, they dissolve almost instantly on your tongue, releasing a clean, complex mineral flavour – ocean-bright, gently sweet, with none of the harsh sharpness of ordinary salt.

That difference isn’t imagined. It’s structural. the crystalline structure of Gros Sel Guerande traps a small amount of brine within each flake, giving it that characteristic gentle moisture and multi-layered flavour that no processed salt can replicate.

Neither ground nor crushed. Just as it formed. Just as nature made it.

What your body actually gets

Salt Is Not Your Enemy. Refined Salt Might Be.

We’ve been conditioned to fear salt, but that fear was born from industrially processed sodium chloride, stripped of everything useful and loaded with anti-caking agents. That’s not salt. That’s a chemical residue.

Gros Sel Guerande is different. It is salt in its complete, unaltered form, exactly as it emerges from the sea, carrying the full spectrum of minerals your body genuinely needs:

Magnesium.            Muscle function & sleep quality
Calcium                   Bone density & nerve signalling
Potassium               Heart rhythm & fluid balance
Iron                          Oxygen transport & energy

No additives. No anti-caking agents. No bleaching. No processing. Just salt, as it has always been, as your body has always recognised.

Table Salt vs Sel de Guerande – What You’ve Been Missing

Table salt

• Industrially processed, bleached, minerals stripped away, anti-caking agents added

• Flat, harsh, one-dimensional. You add more and still feel unsatisfied

• Mass-produced by the million tonne. No heritage, no craft, no story

Gros Sel Guerande

• Hand-harvested, unrefined, naturally moist, full mineral profile intact

• Complex mineral flavour. A pinch is all you need, and every dish is transformed

• Harvested by hand in small batches. A craft unchanged since the 9th century

How to use it

Use it as a cooking salt, and elevate your kitchen status instantly.

Gros Sel Guerande is a cooking salt. Add it at the very end, not during cooking. That’s the secret. Its delicate crystals dissolve instantly on the palate, delivering a brief, bright intensity that amplifies every other flavour in the dish.

Grilled steak or lamb, just before serving
Soft-boiled or fried eggs
Fresh fish & shellfish
Summer salads & tomatoes
Chocolate, caramel & baked goods
Crusty bread with good butter

You will use less than you think. And every meal, even a simple one, will taste like something you’d pay restaurant prices for.
